We will be delivering a workshop commissioned by Storyhouse for its new community art project: Chester Designed by Nature.
Inspired by the Theme Hibernation, we designed a workshop of the House-Nest, where participants will be able to create an infrastructure/bones of the house in bamboo, and build/knit walls in an interlacing fibers, creating a beautiful House-Nest.
Kitaya's Founder, Neuza Morais, delivered a talk "kitaya as accessible learning during lockdown" at the international conference Educating Creativel ypromoted by Storyhouse
Educating Creatively is an international creative conference for education, cultural and creative professionals, teachers, artists and practitioners. The conference will explore and celebrate creative education, incorporating cultural practice into education, and the study of creative practices. This year, the connection between these explorations and wellbeing, accessibility and the digital world will be the conference tracks. This will be a space to bring together creative and education practitioners to celebrate, share and learn.
The conference will include keynote talks, performances, papers, practical workshops, pecha kucha and opportunities for networking.
This was a project commissioned by Storyhouse: Create art with an artist, where they invited 5 artists based in Chester, to design and deliver individual events during the summer.
designed a replica of a village, and brick by brick everyone came together to built it, each brick represented a person's story, challenges and adventures during lockdown. We reflected on public and private space and how last year our perception of both changed, and how we also changed, as individuals and as a community.
We had people who got really emotional and we listened to so many great stories, but ultimately we all had fun.
A full day of brainstorming with our creative team to finalize products and deadlines.
We have been collecting the Missing Building Projects for our August Exhibition, and they are incredible!
A new addition to our team, Chris Sharkey is now a partner and our Financial Director, welcome Chris!
We delivered a pitch and won a business grant 6 one-to-one intensive business coaching sessions.
Today we distributed 24 kitaya boxes (The Missing Building Project). Seeing the excitement on everyone's faces when they opened the box was worthy of every hour of work. This is why I do this, to provoke excitement, imagination and wonder.
Kitaya was shortlisted as a finalist for the Venture Pitch 2021, by the University of Chester and Santander Universities.
We started to put our kits together and purchasing the materials included in our kits.
Inspired by the title of the Action Research Plan for Chester's Biennial "Alternative Views of the City" we design a kit that contained 6 architectural workshops inspired by Chester's landmarks: the Amphitheatre, the City Walls, Chester Zoo, the Dee Bridge, Grosvenor Park and "the Missing Building".
The Missing Building workshop was the last workshop and with no materials left, besides the cardboard box itself, the participants had to design a building which they believed was missing in Chester.
Kitaya submitted an EOI for the Action Research Plan and we won the commission!
